"Why does an archaeologist run a shop?"
I have been asked that question many times! And every time, it makes me smile. Because the more I have thought about it, the more I have come to the conclusion that it actually makes perfect sense.
Most people associate an archaeologist with excavations, trowels, and finds from the past. And yes – that is part of my profession. But archaeology is about much more than digging things up. It is about understanding people. How we have lived, worked, created, and evolved over thousands of years.
I brought that curiosity with me when I took over SKYTTEN DANMARK.
Here you will find tools for spinning, weaving, carding, and felting. But when I see a spinning wheel, a hand spindle, or a set of carders, I don't just see a piece of equipment. I see the story of people who, through generations, have processed wool, spun yarn, and woven fabric. I see the knowledge they have built, the techniques they have developed, and the craftsmanship that has been passed down from hand to hand.
These tools are not just products. They are part of our shared cultural heritage.
All over the world, people have worked with fibers and textiles. Every culture has developed its own tools, materials, and techniques. Some have been lost over time, while others have fortunately lived on – because someone has chosen to learn it, use it, and pass it on.
That is precisely what drives me
I do not just want to sell tools. I want to share the story behind them. To create curiosity and inspire more people to discover the joy of the old crafts. For when we learn to spin, weave, or felt, we do not just learn a technique – we become part of a tradition that people have kept alive for thousands of years.
I hope you can feel that thought when you visit SKYTTEN DANMARK. That you not only find quality tools, but also a shop where history, craftsmanship, and passion go hand in hand.
For me, history does not just live in museums or archaeological excavations.
It lives on in our hands – every time we create something with them.....
