Horn weaving piece
Bead weaving is a fun and exciting way to weave beautiful ribbons, belts and the like.
Block weaving is a special ribbon weaving technique used to produce both simple and more complex ribbons and edgings with many different patterns and structures. Block weaving uses small square blocks with a hole in each corner to control the warp threads. The warp is threaded through each of the four holes in the block. The number of blocks needed to achieve the desired pattern and width of the ribbon is collected and placed on end, which now forms the dividing line in the weaving. At one end, all the warp threads are gathered at a fixed point, while the other end is attached to the weaver's belt.
The earliest piece-woven textiles from Denmark date from the Early Iron Age, and they are preserved both in bogs, as gifts and in connection with weapon sacrifice finds. The earliest find of piece-woven textiles is two wooden pieces found in Dejbjerg Mose near Skjern in West Jutland. They have recently been dated to the 1st to 3rd centuries AD.
