STØT OG KØB LOKALT – ellers mister vi måske noget vigtigt?

SUPPORT AND BUY LOCAL – otherwise we might lose something important?

After a year at Skytten, one thing has become very clear to me: We have become accustomed to a “convenience hunt,” where everything must be as cheap as possible, arrive as quickly as possible, and preferably be available immediately – regardless of whether it comes from Denmark or abroad.

It sounds efficient. But the consequence is clear: small specialty shops in Denmark are being squeezed. Not because their products or expertise are inferior – on the contrary – but because they cannot compete on price, inventory size, and lightning-fast delivery.

And that is precisely the paradox!
For at the same time, I hear the same wish from customers again and again:

  • We miss a local shop
  • We miss being able to see, feel, and try the materials
  • We miss guidance, professionalism, and human contact

But if we continue to shop solely based on price and fast delivery, the places that can provide exactly that will disappear.

We cannot demand personal service, professional knowledge, and vibrant professional environments – and at the same time only support the actors that do not offer them.

The question is therefore not just what the shops can do better.
The question is also: What is it that we as customers prioritize?

If we want to preserve the small specialty shops, we must change our mindset:

  • We must support locally – not just talk about it
  • We must accept waiting time as part of quality
  • We must use the guidance and knowledge that the small shops actually offer

Otherwise, we must also be honest about the consequence: the places we say we miss will disappear.

With this blog post, it should be emphasized that Skytten is not closing down – on the contrary, we look forward to many good years ahead.
But for that very reason, it feels important to have this conversation now. Because if we want places like Skytten and other small specialty shops to exist in the future, it requires a collective awareness and an active choice from us as customers.

It is not about turning our backs on development or online retail – but about finding a balance where we also value the local, the professional, and the human.
For without our choices as customers, the small shops only exist as long as they can fight against the current. With our choices, they can continue to be something truly special.
