We are now pleased to welcome Hanne Gro Larsen to Skytten
Hanne Gro Larsen – or simply Gro, as most know her – graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 2008. Throughout her career, she has worked as a competition architect and helped design the Havepromenaden in Næstved, among other projects. In 2012, she took the leap and established her own business, Gro Arkitektur og Design, which later also developed into a parallel gallery featuring art, ceramics, and paintings.
You can read more about Gro's work here:
About a year and a half ago, Gro began spinning yarn. It was her daughter who introduced her to the craft, but her interest in textiles had been there for a long time. She has been knitting for many years and has always been drawn to textures, colors, and natural materials – especially wool.
Gro lives in the heart of nature near the sea, surrounded by rabbits, horses, and dogs. Nature plays a central role in both her life and her creative work, which is precisely why she feels a special connection to wool.
"Wool is like holding nature in your hands."
It is primarily the slow process that fascinates her. In an everyday life where the pace is often fast, she appreciates that spinning requires time and presence. When she sits at the spinning wheel, her hands and feet work together in a calm rhythm. You must constantly be attentive to the material and the process, leaving no room to do a lot of other things at the same time. It creates a level of immersion that Gro greatly values.
She particularly enjoys working with raw wool, which she describes as beautiful, warm, and alive. She subsequently uses the finished hand-spun yarn for both knitting and weaving, and the joy of following the material all the way from raw wool to a finished product is an important part of the experience.
For Gro, spinning is not just about producing yarn. It is about craftsmanship, immersion, and creating a close connection to nature's own materials. It is a process that provides peace, meaning, and room for creativity – one fiber at a time.
